What I Read in April 2026
April was yet another wonderful month for reading for me, and probably the best month this year, simply because I felt like I was finally in a reading groove. Also, all the books I picked up were wonderful, so I have six great recommendations for you!

It’s Different This Time by Joss Richard
I wanted to read some of the best estranged friends to lovers romance books, and this one is beloved by a bookstagrammer I follow and adore. I can understand why she likes it so much! It’s Different This Time has something that I really love seeing in romance books: messy, imperfect characters who make mistakes. It’s not always pretty to see people fumble opportunities, but that’s life sometimes, and I really felt for both of these characters. The fall in New York vibes are strong with this one, and it was nice to be transported to the city while reading.
Queen Charlotte by Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes
I loved the show, so I decided to check out the book, and I’m glad I did! It’s basically the same story, but I have no issue with that, since the tv series was excellent. It was really fun to be inside the characters’ heads as everything is happening and get some deeper context, and I also liked the added depth to Queen Charlotte and Brimsley’s relationship. If you’re even remotely a fan of the Netflix series, you will like this one!
Last Call at the Local by Sarah Grunder Ruiz
This one really grew on me. After really enjoying Luck & Last Resorts in March, I picked this audiobook up, not expecting this one might surpass that read...and honestly, it might have! The main characters in this book are endearing, and I just loved them and rooted for their HEA all the way. The author did a really good job getting us in the heads of these characters, struggles and all. The first kiss was a favorite moment for me (seriously so sweet!), and I’m a fan of romance books set in Ireland, so this was a 5-star read for me.
Spies, Lies, and Alibis by Natalie Walters
I had a lot of fun with this one! I received a NetGalley ARC and went in with the expectations that this was more of a suspenseful story with romantic plot built in. It was just the right amount of tension, romance, comedic relief, and action for me. Oddly enough, a spy story was what I was in the mood for, and despite the stressful situations, the writing was really funny at times, so it had really strong romcom vibes. Audio note: I actually listened to the audiobook for this one and thought both voice actors were great, but the MMC was cast exceptionally well.
Lost Song by Claire Kent
I tore through this book in less than a day. I love the world that Claire Kent has created—it’s immersive and gritty and feels very real. I liked the main characters and how Micah was down bad for Kat, and the last 30 percent or so of this book is action-packed (seriously, I could not put it down). If you’re looking for post-apocalyptic romance, Claire Kent is definitely that girl.
There’s Something About Mira by Sonali Dev
When I think about this book, the word that comes to mind is “special.” This is just such a lovely, unique romance book, and it is such an adventure for the heart. I love the Indian culture that Sonali Dev writes in, the adventure element to the plot, and my new fave book boyfriend, Krish. Seriously, from the moment he appeared on the page, I knew we were in for a fun time. There is a literal journey the two main characters go on, and it is a WILD ride—but the more I read and the mystery unraveled, the more I just wanted to keep reading. This is definitely one of those books that stayed with me after reading.
