The Best Road Trip Romance Books for Travel Lovers

I love a good spicy travel romance book, especially when it involves a road trip. It’s the forced proximity trope at its finest: when the road winds on and conversations drifts from nonsense to deeper topics. Even the most opposite of characters can bond on the road, belting out songs and sharing road trip snacks on the way to their final destination. All that physical closeness plus long hours and detours—both in navigation and emotions—are a recipe for falling in love. So let’s hit the road with some of the best road trip romance books!

Off the Map by Trish Doller

I really love Trish Doller’s books! The FMC in this book is a “I don’t do love” type of gal, and I really adored seeing her defenses come down. It’s a popular romance road trip book that has emotional moments and a really fun journey, literally and figuratively, to the HEA. (ps looking for more Irish book boyfriends to swoon over? I’ve got you!)

Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun

This is is one of those books that sounds like a road trip romance movie…it’s a sapphic romcom following estranged friends who are forced together to drive their former teacher across the country. They’re forced to face what tore them apart, and of course find love along the way.

Last Light by Claire Kent

This one’s a bit unconventional—it’s a post-apocalyptic romance with some darker themes (so make sure to check the trigger warnings). I’m not usually a fan of the age gap in romance books, but it was done well here. Definitely a spicy travel romance book, if you’re looking for something with heat!

The Half of It by Theresa Christine

A road trip through the Irish countryside? A flat tire, and an inn with only one bed? This is a steamy romance book with road trip that hits right when the slow burn really starts burning. It’s free to read on KU!

You, with a View by Jessica Joyce

The chemistry in this book is exquisitely done, and I was smiling from ear to ear reading this one. I’m a sucker for an FMC whose life is falling apart, and I loved seeing the two characters become better people because of each other.

Ego Trip by Tabatha Kiss

How does a two-week road trip with your hot boss sound? No big deal, right? Except he’s the same guy you had a one-night stand with years ago…Obviously, this is the best romance book road trip for adults who want something that has it all—lots of banter, unbearable tension, and a spicy good time.

Planes, Trains and all the Feels by Livy Hart

Taking two characters who really don’t seem to like each other at the top of the book and then turning them into friends…and then something more…it’s a bit of an art. It’s a slow burn but you still get some very good spice, and you’ll be laughing and swooning the whole journey.

Mrs. Nash’s Ashes by Sarah Adler

This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. I love emotional romance books that tackle heavier topics like grief, and Mrs. Nash’s Ashes will absolutely tug at your heartstrings. Their road trip is full of peculiar bed-and-breakfasts, unusual small-town festivals, and deer with a death wish, making it a romance book road trip to remember.
